Which genres actually suit a phone
Some genres were made for mobile and some are just tolerated there. After reviewing a lot of them, I've stopped judging every game by the same yardstick, because a strategy title and a twitchy platformer want completely different things from a touchscreen.
Turn-based games shine because they remove the pressure of a slow tap. Puzzles, card games and cozy simulations all fit the pick-up-and-put-down rhythm of phone play, where you rarely get a clean uninterrupted hour.
Fast action is harder. Racing and action RPGs can work, but only when the controls are adjustable and the game accepts that your thumbs cover part of the screen. When developers design around that limitation instead of ignoring it, the results can be great.
My rule of thumb: if a game respects short sessions and lets me tune the controls, it usually belongs on a phone. If it demands frame-perfect input and a fixed layout, I'll probably enjoy it more elsewhere.
